Understanding Expectations
Unmet expectations can cause serious problems in marriage. Confused, unrealistic, and different expectations lead to major fights and feelings that the other person doesn’t love them anymore. It is probably safe to say that difficulties over expectations are one of the leading causes of divorce. It helps couples to understand that the disillusionment and rejection they feel (and tend to blame on their spouse and their “bad marriage”) are feelings that, to some extent, couples feel and that these things can be overcome.
The goal of this workshop is to show the role that expectations have in a marriage and help group members become aware of their expectations: what they are, how realistic they are, where they came from, and whether or not their spouse shares the same ones. We know how vital it is that expectations be MUTUALLY AGREED UPON.
